Yorkshire Terriers are long-coated dogs. This fact is a strong argument against buying a puppy for those who are not ready to devote much time and money to grooming a pet. Even a patient owner can sometimes despair of brushing and washing a Yorkie. Trimming or cutting the hair can be the way out. It will help to avoid matted hair and make it easier to look after a Yorkie's coat. They also look cute in a puppy clip.
Wash your Yorkshire Terrier once a week using special dog products. Note, that the shampoo you use is not acceptable since it has a different pH-level. It is recommended to buy off-tick leashes to frighten off any annoying insects that can also be the reason for some other diseases. Check the dog's ears and eyes for infection, and do not let tartar develop on the teeth. Do not ignore the fundamentals of feeding a proper diet and never feed your pet the same food you consume. The Yorkie needs a wide range of vitamins, minerals and other elements to keep its coat shining and to remain an overall healthy dog. Yorkshire Terriers Breeders - Yorkshire Terriers originated in Europe about 150 years ago. That time is known as the Industrial Revolution and is characterized by work force migration. Yorkshire was one of the most attractive places to find work for Scotsmen who could not support their families anymore. Relying solely on income in the agriculture business for these Scotsmen was out of the question.
Scotsmen needed a cure for rats that flooded their mines. They found it, having brought the Clydesdale Terrier to Yorkshire. The dog was crossed later with the English Black and the Tan Toy Terrier, and, very likely, with the Maltese Terrier to produce a good hunting breed, that was also beautiful and amiable. That was the way breeders produced Yorkshire Terriers.
Yorkshire Terriers Pictures - Yorkshire Terriers are characterized by lively behavior, friendliness and intelligence. Like most Terriers, Yorkies enjoy moving around, playing and running. Nevertheless, individual dogs tend to be capricious if not trained properly. Special attention should be paid to obedience training since Yorkies are second to none in barking.
They do perfectly well in an apartment, a house, or a farm. Placing Yorkshire Terriers outside is possible (they are not afraid of getting cold), but not recommended. Yorkshire Terriers have not changed much over the time. The first breed standard appeared in 1898. The breed has acquired many adherents due to its beauty and personality traits.
Yorkshire Terriers - Yorkshire Terriers are Toy Dogs weighing no more than 7 pounds and standing at the shoulder no higher than 6-7 inches. Their long straight silky hair is tan with steal blue at the roots. The skull is flat with a moderately long muzzle and V-shaped erect ears. Eyes and the edge of eyelids are black, as well as the nose. The docked tail should neither curve over the back, nor be drawn between the legs.

Yorkshire Terriers Dogs - Yorkshire Terrier Dogs appeared around 100 years ago or so, and they are believed to have been introduced in Yorkshire County by Scottish weavers, who kept them as rat-catcher dogs, which guarded fabric and fiber against rats and other rodents. This breed has lots of Terrier genes in its makeup, which contains the Maltese Terrier, the Paisley, Skye, Manchester, and the Dandie Dinmont terriers.
Earlier, Yorkshire Terriers were known as Scotch Terriers, and it was in 1886 that the Kennel Club registered them as Yorkshire Terriers. Shortly after that the dog was shipped to the USA. Old-time Yorkshire Terriers were much bigger than their modern descendants, and they had shorter coat, but breeders were determined to develop a smaller species through selective breeding, and that is what they eventually did.
